Abiodun Nejo,   Ado Ekiti Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has appointed coordinating directors for the 16 local government areas of the state. A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Yinka Oyebode, on Tuesday said the appointments  were “in a bid to strengthen local government administration in the state for better performance”. The  coordinating directors  are  to superintendent the councils.  The State House of Assembly last week placed the elected chairmen and councillors of the 16 council areas of the state on an indefinite suspension over  alleged corruption and mismanagement pending outcome of ongoing investigation into the finances of the councils under their watch.  The appointees include  Mr S. Abiodun Nejo, Ado Ekiti Former governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has accused the Federal Government of plotting to hide under the killings in Zamfara State by armed bandits to impose emergency rule on the state. Fayose alleged that the ultimate goal of the planned emergency rule was to pave way for a fresh electoral process in the state so that the All Progressives Congress could field candidates for elections in the state. The former governor, who is the Southwest Coordinator of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council, alleged that the plot was a reaction to Independent National Electoral Commission’s refusal to allow APC field candidates for 2019 general election in Zamfara State due to non-compliance with the Electoral Act. President Muhammadu Buhari has urged the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to suspend its on-going industrial action in the interest of the country. Buhari gave the charge on Tuesday during the 3rd Convocation Ceremony of the Alex Ekwueme-Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ikwo (AE-FUNAI) Ebonyi. DAILY POST had reported that the ongoing strike declared by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) continues as the leaders of the union and the Federal government failed to reach an agreement again. Allan Mbote, a Kenyan footballer has been killed by lightning while celebrating his team’s goal. Five other players also injured by the lightning during Nangina Ward Football Tournament at Luchululo village The player was celebrating Red Sharks’ equalizer against their opponents on Sunday when he was struck by lightning The Standard, Kenya, reports that the 20-year-old Mbote, was also a Kenyatta University student. He played as a defender for his team. Three of the players are still on admission at Nangina Mission Hospital. Kenyatta University has confirmed the death of the second year student. The MP for the area, Dr. Oundo Mudenyo also sent his condolence as he wrote: “Some tragedies are hard to take: lightening striking a player during a soccer match! RIP Allan Mbote.”

Jubilations broke out in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, on Monday as the Ado Ekiti Division of the Federal High Court dismissed the suit filed by former Governor of Ekiti State, Chief Segun Oni, to challenge the eligibility of Governor Kayode Fayemi to contest in the July 14 governorship election in the state.   Fayemi’s supporters and well-wishers gathered at the pavilion and Fajuyi Park to celebrate the court victory amid drumming and dancing.   Oni, who was an All Progressives Congress aspirant in the election, in the suit, challenged Fayemi’s eligibility on the grounds that the governor did not resign his appointment as a minister 30 days before the party primaries and as well that he was indicted by the Justice Silas Oyewole-led commission of inquiry last year.   The commission of inquiry was set up by the former Governor Ayodele Fayose to probe the finances of the state government when Fayemi was governor of the state between 2010 and 2014. ...
