Lagos Confirms Authencity of SMS on Stimulus Package

The Lagos State Government has confirmed that SMS messages received by residents who are sixty years old and above emanated from the Lagos State Residents’ Registration Agency, LASRRA, saying the aged and vulnerable residents will benefit from the stimulus food package unveiled by the State Government on Friday 27th March, 2020. The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Prince Gbolahan Lawal, made the clarification in Lagos today, explaining that an SMS from the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) was sent to the aged asking them to reply with a “YES”, “FOOD YES” or “SWITCH YES” if their registered home address with the Agency remains valid.   Lawal noted that the Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA), devised the initiative to ensure fairness and evenness in the distribution of the stimulus packages, just as he emphasised that Lagos residents duly registered with LASRRA will access similar socia...

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control NCDC has warned against the myths some Nigerians have about the Coronavirus disease. School feeding programme will continue despite closure of schools – Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Farouq

Van Gogh painting worth £5m stolen from Dutch museum currently closed due to coronavirus

A painting by Vincent van Gogh has been stolen from a Dutch museum currently closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The museum was closed on March 2 in line with national measures to halt the spread of the coronavirus. Police said the painting with an estimated value of up to £5m was stolen on Monday at the Singer Laren Museum in what appeared to be a smash-and-grab from the front entrance. During a press conference broadcast on Youtube, the museum’s director, Jan Rudolph de Lorm, said he was “incredibly pissed off” after thieves stole the painting, which had been on loan from the Groninger Museum.  De Lorm said: “This is exactly what you don’t want as a museum that has a painting on loan. “A beautiful and moving painting by one of our greatest painters, stolen from the community … This must come back as soon as possible, so that we can enjoy and be comforted by this beautiful art again. A video of a Nigerian dad complaining bitterly over the poor condition his daughter is allegedly being subjected to at an isolation center, has surfaced online. The man who introduced himself as Mr Olanutu, told reporters during an interview that his daughter who is diagnosed with the novel Coronavirus, has been left unattended to by the medical staff at one of the isolation centers. Although he did not mention which of the Isolation centers, the aggrieved dad also said his daughter had not been fed since she was moved into the isolation center.''Let the Minister come and see what is happening. Botswana records first 3 cases of coronavirus

Botswana is the latest African country to confirm cases of the deadly coronavirus.  On Monday night, health minister Lemogang Kwape announced the country's first three cases of coronavirus on state television.  Kwape said the three people who had tested positive for the virus are two males and a female, who had travelled from Thailand and the United Kingdom respectively. The health minister further stated the COVID 19 patients are already in isolation undergoing treatment.The post Botswana records first 3 cases of coronavirus appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog .

Only surviving member of E-money's gang arrested by SARS operatives

34-year-old Ifeanyi Asiatugbulam, said to be the only surviving member of late millionaire kidnapper and former police officer Corporal Collins Ezenwa aka E-money's gang, has been arrested by operatives of the Imo State Special Armed Robbery Squad (SARS) alongside one other suspect.  The suspect was arrested alongside 20-year-old Kingsley Udo Johnson at Ikot Akwa in Nsit Atai Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State in an operation coordinated by the SARS commander in the state, CSP Victor Godfrey. Asiatugbulam escaped during a gun duel in which E-money and two other gang members were killed on January 27, 2018 at Atta community of Ikeduru, Imo state. Though he was arrested in another case in which one Onyia Destiny Chinyere was kidnapped and driven to their den at Oru East of Imo State, he mysteriously escaped from police custody. One AK47 rifle and 54 live 7.6mm ammunition was recovered from him at that time....

Coronavirus: British Airways grounds all flights to and from Gatwick Airport

British Airways has grounded all flights to and from Gatwick Airport due to coronavirus but still operate from London Heathrow at a severely reduced schedule.This is due to the ‘considerable restrictions and challenging market environment’ amid the coronavirus pandemic, a spokesperson said. They continued: ‘Like many other airlines, we will temporarily suspend our flying schedule at Gatwick. No Country in the world can boast of having enough ventilators- Minister of Health Osagie Ehanire

As the nation continues to battle the Coronavirus scourge, Nigeria's Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, has said that no country in the world can boast of having enough ventilators within their healthcare system. A ventilator is a machine designed to provide mechanical ventilation by moving breathable air in and out of the lungs, to deliver breaths to a patient who is physically unable to breathe, or breathing insufficiently. Aaron Carter's girlfriend, Melanie Martin, has been arrested for suspicion of domestic violence. The police were called to the singer's Lancaster, California, home on Sunday night when a fight allegedly broke out between the couple. According to TMZ, cops were called to the residence at 11pm and found visible marks on Carter's body. The singer claimed that he and Melanie got into a physical altercation and she allegedly scratched him. Naira crashes, now exchanging at N412 for a dollar

The Nigerian Naira plunged further in value on Monday March 30, as it exchanged at N412 for a dollar following a temporary suspension of sale of forex to the Bureau De Change operators in the country by the Central Bank of Nigeria.  Recall that the apex bank had pegged the exchange rate of the Naira at N380 to the dollar, a move it insisted was not a devaluation of the Nigerian currency. The CBN however granted the Association of Bureaux De Change Operators of Nigeria its request of going on holiday due to challenges in the local and global economies over the coronavirus pandemic.  While the Naira has crashed in its value due to the low price of crude oil in the international market in recent times, BDC operators have disclosed that there has been a drastic decline in demand for forex due to the impact of coronavirus on the economy. Minister of humanitarian affairs, disaster management and social development, Sadiya Farouq, says the Federal government has begun cash transfer to the poorest households in the country to cushion the economic impact of the Coronavirus pandemic. Farouk announced this at a press conference in Abuja. She said her ministry has commenced advance payment of conditional cash transfer to the poorest households in the country. A Florida Pastor, Pastor Rodney Howard-Browne has been arrested by the police for holding fully-packed church services despite a stay-at-home order in the state.  Prior to his arrest, the evangelical pastor had insisted that he wouldn't close the doors of his Tampa Bay megachurch until the End Times begin. The index case of coronavirus in Oyo has been released from the state's isolaton center after testing negative on Monday March 30.  The index case underwent treatement at the Agbami Chest Hospital which is being used as isolation centre in Ibadan. Chief Press Secretary to Gov. COVID-19 pandemic: Police alerts Nigerians on new crime trends deviced by Internet fraudsters

The Nigeria Police Force has alerted Nigerians on the new crime trends fraudsters have deviced to defraud people during this Coronavirus pandemic. In a statement released, the police spokesperson, Frank Mba, said intelligence at the disposal of the Force indicates that fraud and cybercrime are expected to rise at this time owing to the lockdown emplaced by Government at all levels to contain the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.  Mba said intelligence obtained from the INTERPOL Headquarters shows that scammers in Nigeria and other parts of the globe have begun to create and set up fraudulent websites, e-commerce platforms, fake social media accounts and emails claiming to sell and deliver (covid-19) medical products.
