Festus Keyamo, minister of state for labour and employment has accused some politicians in the country of trying to blackmail him and also hijack recruitment into federal government's Special Public Works (SPW) Programme. Speaking on Monday, June 28 in Abuja at the inauguration of the state selection committee for SPW which is a post COVID-19 poverty alleviation programme approved by President Muhammadu Buhari, Keyamo recalled saying "NO" to a meeting with some politicians who want to "determine who gets what and how".  He said;  “There have been attempts at blackmailing me in this particular programme too to make us also yield to political leaders and we have said no, not while I am here. “I have a pedigree. Hunt for men filmed brutally punching and kicking victim in middle of road (video)

A group of thugs were filmed punching and kicking a man in the street before his wallet and keys were stolen.  A manhunt has been launched for the attackers. Officers said the victim, 40, was attacked on Corporation Street, Birmingham, at 6pm on Sunday June 28.  Shocking footage of the attack shows him lying in the middle of the road as one man climbs on top of him and repeatedly strikes his head. Another then appears to be stamping on his face.    He was taken to hospital after the ordeal, where he was treated for head injuries, a badly bruised eye and possible facial fractures. West Midlands Police have now released the footage as part of an appeal to find the man’s attackers. A Nigerian lady has recounted how she was almost kidnapped as she was about boarding a tricycle at Jakande Estate in Isolo, Lagos.  According to @Chioma_Ajebota, some men who approached her, accused her of "flying their colour" amid a cult war they claimed was ongoing in the area. 100% electricity tariff hike put on hold as Lawan and Gbajabiamila intervene

The 100% hike in electricity tariff slated to commence Wednesday, July 1, has been put on hold. This comes after the National Assembly leadership’s intervention at a meeting with the Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos), the National Electricity Regulatory Agency (NERC) and others in the power chain, Monday night, June 29. The DisCos announced over the weekend that the tariff  pushed forward from April 1 would take effect from July 1. Customers protested the planned increase but the DisCos insisted that only a “cost-reflective” tariff could guarantee their survival to keep the power sector afloat. At Monday’s meeting, Senate President Ahmad Lawan and House of Representatives Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila promised to take the DisCos’ request to President Muhammed Buhari and urged them to push the tariff raise till Aprill 2021. In a statement, Special Adviser (Media) to the Senate President, Ola Awoniyi, said the National Assembly leadership was emphatic a...

A Twitter user has raised alarm of a Nigerian man still being kept in prison for 6 years without trial after he was "wrongfully" arrested while charging his laptop at his neighbour's house.  @hausa_girl who identified the Nigerian man as "Junior" said the criminal the police arrested during a raid at the apartment confirmed Junior was innocent, but they refused to release him.  She tweeted;  This guy has been in maximum prison for six years without trial. He went to charge his laptop in his neighbour's house. That was how he was raided with the guy. Junior is not a criminal.. Two fleeing robbers and their herbalist arrested in Oyo and Osun

Two members of a robbery gang have been arrested while fleeing and their herbalist was also arrested. The suspects reportedly fled their hideout three weeks ago when men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ogun State Police Command, stormed the Adesan area of Mowe in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state. The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said on Monday that the suspected robbers, Saheed Bello and Bello Sadiq, were arrested in Ibadan, Oyo State, while their herbalist, Ibrahim Rasheed, was apprehended in Osun State on Monday, June 29. The PPRO said the suspects were arrested three weeks after four of their gang members were apprehended in their hideout in Mowe. The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the probe of the policemen who allegedly arrested D'banj's rape accuser, Seyitan Babatayo. The IGP gave the order in a letter signed on his behalf by his Principal Staff Officer, DCP Idowu Owohunwa and addressed to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department, Garki. The IGP's letter was sequel to a petition written by Seyitan’s lawyer, Ojoge, Omileye and Partners. In the IGP's letter titled  "Re: Petition Against Inspector Abraham, Supol Ugowe and the Entire Police Officers Team at Ikeja, Lagos Division of the Inspector General of Police", the IGP asked that the petition from Seyitan Babatayo's lawyer be addressed. The petition from Babatayo's legal representative - Ojoge, Omileye and Partners -  allege that policemen attached to the Intelligence Response Team arrested Seyitan on the directive of D’Banj and detained her for over 24 hours. It was also allege...

Police in search of families of children rescued from child trafficking syndicates (photo)

The Nigeria Police Force is currently in search of the families of three children, two girls and a boy, stolen from their families since June 2019. Frank Mba, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, told newsmen on Monday, June 29, that the three children were among six rescued by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) in an operation that was launched following reported cases of child theft in the FCT. He said three of the rescued children have been reunited with their parents but the other three, pictured above, are yet to be reunited as their families cannot be located. “We were able to identify the parents of three of the six children and the police have reunited them with their families.
