Image
Rev. John Joseph Hayab, State Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna chapter, has said that the problem with Nigeria’s security is the lack of a sincere collaborative effort in solving it. He explained that there is the need for those in leadership positions to listen to everyone ready to suggest a way out, not only the professionals, stressing that traditional leaders, religious leaders, association leaders and even the common people, youths, women and children all have a stake in the matter. Speaking in Kaduna on Tuesday in a day peace and security summit, theme, “Nigeria’s insecurity: The Church’s response in the 21st Century”, organized by CAN in the state, Rev. Euro 2020: Southgate to use three-man defence against Germany

Image
England are ready to rip up their Euro 2020 winning formula on Tuesday night by deploying a three-man defence against Germany. Gareth Southgate has used a back four in all three of England’s group matches but Sportsmail understands he is giving serious thought to switching formations. Southgate is looking at using a 3-4-3 system at Wembley, a formation he used en route to finishing in fourth place at the last World Cup. The fact that Germany also play with a back three is likely to have been a contributing factor behind Southgate altering his tactics. The back three is likely to be the same players Southgate selected to play in those positions in Russia — Harry Maguire, John Stones and Kyle Walker. Southgate complained about England’s lack of quality from set-pieces — an issue that could open the door to Kieran Trippier making his second start of the tournament. Luke Shaw will be hopeful of the nod on the left flank after his promising display against the Czech Republic last we...

Israeli’s Lapid arrives UAE on first official visit

Image
Israel’s new Foreign Minister, Yair Lapid, arrived in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday, making it the first Israeli top diplomat to visit the Gulf state. During his two-day visit, Lapid would meet with his Emirati counterpart, Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He would also inaugurate the Israeli embassy in Abu Dhabi and a general consulate in Dubai. Israel had signed agreements establishing diplomatic ties with the UAE and Bahrain in September following mediation by the United States. The two became the first Gulf countries to establish official ties with Israel. This could lead to crossing the decades-old line drawn by most Arab states who had refused relations with Israel until the conflict with the Palestinians had been resolved.

Image
The Nigeria Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, has clarified the misconception that the case of Uduak Akpan, a suspected killer of Iniubong Umoren, a job seeking graduate in Akwa Ibom State has been transferred to the Department of State Service, DSS. In a media chat on Monday, in Uyo, the State capital, the command’s Public Relations Officer Odiko Macdon said Akpan’s case file was at the Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP, and the suspect remanded in the State Correctional centre. He said it would be a sheer folly for the police to hands-off the case after going through the hurdles of arresting the suspect under 24hours of allegedly committing the crime, exhuming the victim’s corpse and subjecting the same for autopsy. He added that the command had enough evidence to prosecute Uduak Akpan and wondered why some people would assume that police had backed out of the case. He further said that it was only the police that were empowered by law to handle such cases, questioning why...

EPL: Martial, Van de Beek, others set to leave Man Utd

Image
Manchester United stars Anthony Martial and Donny van de Beek, are facing the risk of being sold this summer. ESPN reports United feel “every player has a realistic valuation”. Martial and Van de Beek endured poor seasons last year and the club is ready to axe both men. Van de Beek has struggled to make an impression after joining from Ajax last summer, but is willing to stay and fight for a first-team spot. The Dutch midfielder is currently on holiday after picking up a groin injury that ended his Euro 2020 hopes. Martial has not played for United since March as a result of injury. The Frenchman has now fallen behind Edinson Cavani in the pecking order. Other fringe players such as Andreas Pereira and Diogo Dalot may also leave. Both were sent out on loan to Serie A last year, with Lazio and AC Milan respectively, and United are willing to ship them out again.

He made the remark on Saturday morning via a tweet from his verifi...

Euro 2020: Wales battle Denmark, Italy face Austria as last-16 matches resume

Image
The European Championship or Euro 2020 resumes today with the first set of last 16 clashes seeing Denmark against Wales in Amsterdam and Italy take on Austria in London. A coronavirus travel ban means few Wales fans will be in the stadium but 4,000 Danes are expected at least. It thus makes it almost like another home game for Kasper Hjulmand’s side after their three emotional group stage matches in Copenhagen. The shock which followed Christian Eriksen’s collapse in Denmark’s first match turned into a wave of emotional support from their fans. Wales will therefore need all the cunning of Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey to compete. Italy took maximum points in the group stage and are big favourites against Austria, who are playing in the knockout stages of a Euros for the first time. Neither side expects many fans at Wembley due to coronavirus quarantine rules for supporters when entering Britain. Following is the full list of round of 16 fixtures (all times GMT): Saturday Wal...
