The Ekiti State Police Command on Sunday revealed that the fate of the student of Ado Grammar School, Ekiti, Kehinde Timilehin who allegedly stabbed his colleague, Favour Mathew to death on Thursday will be determined by the judiciary. Timilehin, a Senior Secondary School 3 student, on Thursday stabbed the victim to death during a “juju” contest which later turned bloody. Favour died at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital after being stabbed within the school premises due to disagreement between the duo which degenerated to contest over terrestrial power. The suspect has since been detained at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the police headquarters in Ado Ekiti capital city. Ado.Ekiti – Gov. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti on Sunday lifted the no-patronage embargo placed on Ecobank, GTBank and Zenith Bank by his predecessor, Ayo Fayose. With this development, all MDA’s and certain categories of the state workers are now free to do business with them. The Fayose-led administration in May 2016 placed a “non-patronage” ban on the three banks and forbade government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as well as workers in its employ from transacting business with them. Governor Fayemi in quashing the embargo, also directed that all MDAs and their staff could now resume patronage of all the banks. Consequently, the office of the State’s Accountant General has issued a memo to all heads of MDAs to give effect to the governor’s directive lifting the ban.                            The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has announced its decision to embark on an indefinite strike from Wednesday, December 12. ASUP National Treasurer, Suleiman Usman, disclosed this while briefing reporters, shortly after the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Friday in Kaduna State. Usman noted that the decision was taken at the end of the meeting, which lasted for several hours at the Kaduna Polytechnic. He explained that the planned industrial action, followed the failure of the Federal Government to implement all the agreements it entered with the union since 2016. Usman also claimed that despite the 21-day ultimatum issued by ASUP to the government to address some of the issues it had raised over time, the FG has been nonchalant in addressing the demands for improved funding of polytechnic education in the country.
